If you’re an urban commuter like I am, you’ve surely seen the rise of e-scooters all over the cities we call home- and if you’re anything like me, you have an unrelenting desire to hop on one and cruise it all around town, whipping by cyclists, drivers and pedestrians fawn over our sweet rides with looks of jealousy as we pass them by. E-Scooters are great for us, and even greater for the environment! But E-Scooters are a lot like us humans- they always look a bit better with a few accessories; but instead of rings, bracelets and necklaces, e-scooters look fashionable adorning locks, helmets and lights. In this blog, I’ll be showing you fellow e-scooter riders the best way to trick out your ride, as scootering becomes a progressively bigger and bigger part of modern commuting.
Helmets and Locks- Use Them!
With e-scooter riders like ourselves often having to share the roads with cyclists, it's important that we follow similar safety protocols. The most important safety tip we adopt from cyclists is the use of a helmet. The roads aren’t always our friend as scooter riders, and we must ensure that we take proper care of our heads should we take a tumble. Therefore, before hopping on an e-scooter for the first time, make sure your head is protected. The most fashionable helmet for scooter riders would look something like this, providing a fuller overall coverage while still looking pretty good!
Locking your e-scooter is a tricky- but essential- part of overall scooter use. Unlike a bicycle, there is not a clear place on an e-scooter to lock up. However, from my experience, I recommend finding that small area in between the front wheel and the deck as an ideal location- it keeps the scooter low and keeps the lock in a difficult place, making it quite the challenge for thieves to make an attempt should they want to. Get a mini U-Lock, like our CYCL Red Lock. It provides a secure lock (and a security cable for added safety) and a versatile material that allows you to lock multiple areas of your scooter up at once.
Stay Lit- and use Lights!
With scootering becoming a bigger and bigger part of modern commuting, it is essential to have scooter lights that keep us scooter riders well lit in dark times. Not to make a shameless advertisement, but in my experience, the best light scooter riders can have is a set of Winglights from CYCL. These lights provide comprehensive, well lit coverage of you and your immediate area; these lights not only make it easier for you to see your surroundings, but make it easier for your surroundings to see you. Further, if these lights don’t automatically fit, CYCL offers adapters that allow us to put on these lights with ease. Best Accessories for Urban Commuters
The biggest challenge of e-scooters becoming a modern part of urban commuting, in my experience, comes from where I can store my belongings outside of my backpack. An e-scooter’s compact size is what makes it great, but also what holds it back- or does it? These scooter accessories, front hanging bags and handle anchors that let you hang bags off your scooter handles, make carrying your belongings a thing of ease! There are also baskets you can buy for your scooter, which make the scooter itself less compact, but a much greater option for commuters. These accessories are
As we’re beginning to see more and more, e-scooters are quickly making a name for themselves as the future of modern commuting. Their high speed and compact size make them a great option for modern commuters that want to save space and our environment. However, for the best e-scooter experience possible, I recommend accessories that promote safety as well as storage. These accessories allow us to enjoy our e-scooter experience while keeping us safe and making our commutes a little easier. Now that that’s all out of the way, there’s only one thing left I have to say: I’ll see you out on the road!
